Samantha the Poet

Today was Samantha's class program. Each kid in her class wrote a poem and recited it. They also sang a few songs. There were some pretty cute poems. The best part...the whole program was only 15 minutes.
I can't believe my little girl is all but finished with first grade.

the MOTHER load

I was showered with gifts for Mother's day. The kids gave me tons of home made gifts and yes,

that is soap shaped like tools. I even got a CD from church. It was truly my lucky day!

My crafty boys

I have go some pretty crafty boys.

They found a square chunk of wood, a board, and some nails and started to make a bench.
They were disappointed that they couldn't find another similar chunk of wood for the other side.
Did they give up? No way!

They discovered that if they up ended one of their trucks it would fit just right.

So resourceful!

Later they found a piece of log and some more nails to finish off their bench. Thanks to Grandpa Don for helping with the hammering.

Their next project was bird houses.
Colin woke up one morning and got to work. He said he had a dream about building a bird house so he got up and did it. Patrick couldn't' let his brother out do him.
They made these great bird houses out of craft sticks with only a little help from Dad.

Colin made a paper bowl and a swing for his bird house.
They told me they need to make more because we have a lot of birds and not many houses for them. How thoughtful.

Bottled Butter Update

I just learned a new trick for bottling butter! I put my jars thru the sanitizing wash in my dish washer. Then I put 3 sticks in each wide mouth jar (a little messy). Then put all the jars in the oven at 250 . Keep an eye on them, when all of the butter is melted set your timer for 5 minutes. Sanitize lids in boiling water. When your timer rings start pulling the jars out and putting the lids on. I think this way is easier and now I know exactly how much is in each jar.
